What Our Clients Are Saying

“Our 2015 Christmas season was the most successful year ever thanks to the new Thomas Tree Farm mobile-friendly website. We cancelled all our print advertising and relied on our website and Facebook to share our message.

Melanie’s creative work on our family brand, the design and development of the website, and her concern to keep the project on-budget and on-time were top notch. We got many positive comments from our customers regarding our new website. Melanie’s management of our Facebook page: her input and day to day monitoring including creation of videos, posting photos and comments, was much appreciated.

The development of any new project requires team work and I think our team worked very well together.

Melanie is a pleasure to work with.

Values

Our Core Values

Values

Our Core Values

HUMILITY (& CONFIDENCE)

Sometimes people confuse humility with being timid and never speaking your mind. Humility is....  putting others first, not considering yourself more important than those you are helping and working with. Humility is having confidence to share your expertise and wisdom with others without being arrogant or ignoring what others have to say.

Faith.gif

FAITH

Sometimes you have to remind yourself to have faith; To have faith in the client, faith in yourself, faith in the PROCESS, and faith that creativity will happen when you least expect it to. We have faith in our time-tested ability to get the job done and faithfully put a smile on the client's face.

EXCELLENCE

Consistent, Thorough, Quality—Some might call it perfectionistic but we call it "excellence and attention to detail". Perfectionists really struggle to get work accomplished and avoid sharing their work because it’s never good enough. We love showing off our work, and never let our desire for excellence get in the way of accomplishing the work. Due to our desire for excellence, we avoid taking on jobs and clients who are always looking for a cheap deal, and asking for super rushed jobs "thrown together"... we don't throw anything in our business, after all, our tools are not cheap and we prefer to keep them securely in place on our desk. If you are someone who appreciates quality and putting a bit of thought into your project, business and life, you'll appreciate the time and attention we put into all our projects.

Melanie Beaudoin

A Little Bit of History

Melanie Graphics was started in Ottawa, Ontario by Melanie Beaudoin in 2000 with a small space inside of Carleton Technologies Incorporated (CTI). Melanie now works from a home office in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Melanie partners with programmers, seo experts, writers, marketers, and printers to offer her clients more.

Growing up in the beautiful Ottawa-Gatineau region, Melanie was fortunate to be able to pursue many creative avenues like: drawing, photography, graphic design and music. “Commercial Art” was offered in high school and was where she got hooked on design as a career. Melanie graduated with honours from the Graphic Design program at Algonquin College in 1997. Working at a design agency, she learned how to work with Creative Directors, Writers, Editors and other Designers. Landing a position at Entrust Technologies was an exciting step expanding her web knowledge and gaining her experience working with a marketing department, web team and Senior Designer.

Coming from a long line of entrepreneurs and working for the family business since the age of 4, it was only natural that Melanie would start her own freelance business. Freelancing has given her a varied experience with different industries. After starting her business she took on a 2-yr full time design position at the Canada Aviation Museum where she learned about museum life and got to be involved in exhibit, web and print design projects. Melanie gained additional experience through working as an independent contractor designing: exhibit displays for St Joseph’s Communications, websites for burbek, ads for the Aylmer Bulletin, branding for Print Pros Plus, and aiding the Jim Pattison Children's Hospital Foundation Communications department in Saskatoon with developing their capital campaign brand. In addition to contracts Melanie has donated her skills for several churches and the YMCA in Saskatoon. She has spent a lot of time perfecting her art and knows how to quickly grab ideas and run with them.

Logo Creation

Logo Creation

Logo Creation

The “Logo” is the symbol or mark you use to represent yourself, your business and your products. It’s a pretty important part of your overall brand and it is worth taking some time to consider what you want before you begin working with a Graphic Designer. We strive to come up with practical logo designs that not only reflect our Clients but also are easy to use in a variety of applications.

Here is an example of the process we took to get from no logo to a beautiful, creative logo for The Tasty Oven.

Case Study: The Client originally came to us in need of a unique business card however after asking questions about her business goals, we suggested starting with a logo. The Tasty Oven was a home-based business in Brantford, Ontario looking to expand to sell their goods at local Farmer’s Markets. They made preserves, cakes, cookies, pies and more.

Stage 1: Ask Questions, Listen to the Answers, Rough Pencil Mock-ups... leads to 3 Different Concepts (with variations) being Presented to the Client in PDF format

If you are just starting your business, I'm sure that you have done some research into how to BRAND yourself. If you haven't, I'd suggest reading some articles to get yourself acquainted with the concept of branding. You don't have to follow all the advice you read but if something stands out to you and really makes sense, I'd consider adopting that as one of your priorities and share this with your graphic designer.

Your Designer is likely going to ask you some questions such as…
1) what is your WHY behind what you DO (Maybe this is one word or a few... Maybe it's "To Create Smiles", "To Help Small Businesses Grow", Mine is "Beautify the World Around Me"
2) what problem do you solve?
3) what FEELING do you want to convey to your potential clients with your logo? Ultimately, your Designer needs to understand the feeling the visual branding needs to portray. The more info you give us, the more we understand the target we are aiming for.

Sketches: Starting off with pencil and paper allows a certain creativity to come to the surface that you don’t get if you just sit down at the computer. The concepts on the computer are almost always different than your hand drawn ideas but it gives you a great place to start. The computer really gives you speed and a finished quality that you’d never have doing it by hand.

THREE TIPS FOR LOGO DESIGN:
1) Whether creating your own or hiring someone, make sure that they can provide you with a vector file (ai or eps) created using Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw. The reason this is important is that a vector is based on a math equation good for scaleability and are required for most professional printing.

2) Avoid ever using a photo (jpg) within your logo. It is not scaleable and will make for a very large file.

3) Make sure it works large and small. Balance size between image and text so the text is always readable. Your logo will be used on small items like your business card, a pen, and websites viewed on mobile phones.

Rough Sketches (the Client Never Sees, this is just for the Designer)

There are some concepts that we just don't show as it makes it harder for the Client to choose when there are too many options. We make every effort to show the very best options.

The Computer Drawn Logos Presented to the Client

Stage 2: Choosing and Finalizing the Chosen Concept

The Client chooses the concept that works the best and it’s time for tweaks. Sometimes the Client wants changes to more than one logo to help them decide (there is typically an extra fee for this but we’re happy to oblige). After all, your logo will be the face of your business for years to come.

Once the client has chosen 1 favourite concept, we make tweaks to the colours, shapes or fonts and get it just right. In this stage, we will likely choose Pantone colours (if the client desires to have consistent colour when printing business cards, letterhead and more) Read more on this in our FAQs Printing section.

By now, we have a chosen and finalized logo concept in the colours the Client prefers.

Stage 3: Finalize Logo Files and Save in Various Formats for Client’s Use.

I went to Melanie not knowing what I wanted. She delivered a lot of choice with her design expertise and insight to what may look better. Ultimately you want someone who collaborates with you to get what you want in your design. I appreciate her patience and I highly recommend Melanie—she can truly do anything. Fantastic!
